Current Projects
Tree Planting
Im really excited to tell you all about a great new inter-realm project. Estë, Ulmo, Manwe, Yavanna, Nienna and us are all involved in the tree-planting that TLA was talking about in the gardening thread. The tree planting will be planting trees in late March, April and May depending on the climate in your country. Make sure you take a photo of you and your tree to post for everyone to see on the webpage we will hopefully be making really soon. Im sure that all our realms will get really excited over this project!
But there is lots of work to do before then. Some of you are probably already thinking, I dont have room to plant a tree or something along those lines. It is our realms job, as part of the project publicity, to develop an information page for people who cant plant trees. So, Id like everyone who can to post in this thread some info about a plant that people might like to plant. If youre a bonsai expert maybe you could write a bit of information about that. It only needs to be a few lines long. Just something like the plants name, a description, why you like it and the climate.
I know that we are all busy at the moment but Id really like as many of us as possible to get involved. Im sure that well all learn lots about our fellow realmies favourite small plants!
Also, PM me if you would be interested in coordinating our info page Im not sure yet if it needs to be HTML or not it all depends on what type of site we end up getting for it.

Ideas so far
Plant: Grass Heads (by Tani)
Brief Description: Im sure lots of you will have seen them. You just get an old stocking, put some Cress seeds in the toe, and fill it up until it is about fist sized with cotton wool and firm. Tie it off but leave the leg of the stocking attached. Glue or draw on a face if you want to and wait for the glue to dry. (Make sure you use water proof markers and glue!) Suspend it in a glass or vase full of water and make sure it stays moist. Keep it by the window and watch it grow. Youll have a little face with long green hair in a few weeks. If you use Cress you can even put it in salads. Just make sure you check exactly what you are planting incase it is toxic. Grass grows really well too but dont eat it!
Climate: Makes a great indoor plant anywhere.
Why do I like Grass Heads? They are so easy to grow, anyone can do it. They look really cute too. They take up very little room and you could easily have one next to your window in your room! How cool is that! I think it is the perfect solution for people who cant plant trees or pot plants.

Plant: Crepe Myrtle (by Lorien_Greenleaf)
Description: The wide range of sizes and flower color make the crepe myrtle an essential shrub in any sunny landscape. Flower colors range from red to purple to pink to white, and a few colors in between. Their heights can range from a little under two feet all the way up to a 20+ foot tall tree form.
Care: Crepe Myrtles absolutely need a sunny location in well-drained soil. When planting, dig the hole twice the size of the container. The planting hole should be the same depth as the container. Amend your soil with Back to NatureŽ or Hu-MoreŽ to give your crepe myrtle a good start. Place your crepe myrtle and begin back-filling with your amended soil, tamping and applying water as you go. After filling your planting hole apply a good time released fertilizer such as Schultz Multi CoteŽ Outdoor Plant Food. Water in well, and apply about a 2-3" cover of mulch. It is important to keep your newly planted crepe myrtle well-watered in its first growing season.

breath-taking in the spring when blooming for the first time.
Their colors are so vibrant and smell so sweet. Its the perfect
way to greet spring. ![]()
